Società Finanziaria Industriale Italiana (Sofindit)
1905-1938
The Sofindit collection contains the papers (1905 to 1938) produced by the technical and industrial secretariats of BCI and Sofindit, the holding which acquired the Bank’s industrial portfolio in 1931 before selling it to Italy’s Institute for Industrial Reconstruction (IRI) in 1933.
The introduction traces the history of the offices which produced the documents, through the Milan-based Institution’s evolution as a “universal bank”, charting attempts to streamline its network of trustees (BCI representatives within funded companies). It highlights in particular the role of Giorgio Di Veroli, head of BCI’s Industrial Secretariat (1929-1931) and general manager of Sofindit and IRI’s Technical Inspectorate (1932-1935).
