Paesaggio umano: l’Italia del ‘900

Fortezza del Girifalco, Cortona

Intesa Sanpaolo, main partner for Cortona On The Move, presents the ninth edition of the Paesaggio umano: l’Italia del ‘900 exhibition on the third floor of the Medici Fortress, curated by Arianna Rinaldo with scientific direction from Barbara Costa, Head of the Intesa Sanpaolo Historical Archives.

A selection of some 80 images from the Intesa Sanpaolo Historical Archives – around 60 from the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archives and around 20 from the photographic Section – documents the history of Italy over the past century.

Emphasis has been placed on images revealing the relationship between people and the landscape, both through photos of ecological and environmental disasters and by highlighting agricultural, rebuilding and infrastructure projects in the country.

Italy is seen through its landscapes, in an exploration that goes beyond beauty to throw light on constant interactions with a changing territory, encapsulating our country’s historical memory. Without archives and photographs, this memory would be lost forever.

By taking part in the Cortona festival, Intesa Sanpaolo’s Progetto Cultura project has reconfirmed its belief in the creativity, talent and innovation that are extraordinary resources for our country.
