Con nuova e stravagante maniera. Giulio Romano a Mantova

Complesso Museale - Palazzo Ducale, Mantua

Con nuova e stravagante maniera. Giulio Romano a Mantova is an important cultural event dedicated to the great personality of Raphael’s most famous pupil and heir. A key exponent of Mannerism, Giulio Romano left behind extraordinary examples of his skill as an architect and painter in Mantua.

Open from 6 October 2019 to 6 January 2020, the exhibition is made possible by the partnership between the Ducal Palace’s Museum Complex and the Musée du Louvre. It features a series of 72 drawings from the Département des Arts Graphiques, Musée du Louvre, on loan for the first time ever. The artwork serves to chart Giulio Romano’s career, from the early days in Rome alongside Raphael to its culmination in Mantua, highlighting his versatile, multi-faceted personality.
The pieces from the Louvre will be accompanied by paintings, prints, ceramics and additional drawings from museums in Italy and beyond, including the Albertina, Vienna, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle.

As exhibition Partner, Intesa Sanpaolo has also contributed by providing material from its Historical Archives. Visitors to the event will be able to watch a short film, Giulio Romano – superiore alle fabbriche ducali, (Renzo Martinelli, 1989) documenting the historic 1989 exhibition on Giulio Romano at the Ducal Palace, made possible with the sponsorship of Cassa di Risparmio delle Province Lombarde (CARIPLO).
