Illustrissima. Malika Favre
Gallerie d’Italia, VicenzaFrom 18 May 2019, Italian and international illustration will take centre stage in Vicenza for the fourth Illustri Festival.
The biennale, organised by the Illustri association and the Municipality of Vicenza with Intesa Sanpaolo as main partner, reprises the winning formula used in the previous three events:
- Illustri: a collective show at the Basilica Palladiana from 18 May to 23 June showcasing 11 established Italian talents;
- Saranno Illustri: a window on 11 young emerging artists, once again at the Basilica Palladiana from 18 May to 23 June;
- Illustrissima: from 18 May to 25 August, the Gallerie d’Italia will host a solo show featuring the world-renowned star illustrator Malika Favre.
Illustrissima. Malika Favre: an undisputed talent
Traditionally held at Palazzo Leoni Montanari and dedicated to a great international artist, this year’s festival places the spotlight on a female talent following shows featuring works by Pablo Lobato (2015) and Noma Bar (2017).
lllustrissima 2019 is Malika Favre, the French illustrator and designer.
Her bold, minimalist style – often described as Pop Art meets OpArt – is a striking lesson on the use of positive/negative space and colours.
Her work is always inspired by a keen sense of narrative, stimulating the imagination with a pinch of humour, a touch of sensuality and a new take on the ordinary.
The guiding principle for all of Malika’s work is less is more.
Malika studied Graphic Design at Ensaama in Paris before moving to the UK in 2004 to pursue her career as an illustrator.
She joined the multidisciplinary Airside studio in 2006, working as a designer and illustrator and directing animation projects.
In 2011 Malika set herself up as an independent illustrator and artist. Since then, her unmistakable style has seen her emerge as one of the most sought-after graphic artists in the UK. Her most famous clients include The New Yorker, Vogue, Gucci, the Fashion Council and Penguin Books.
In 2018 Malika moved to Barcelona, where she currently lives and works.
The Illustrissima show presents 125 artworks by Malika Favre, enabling visitors to explore her multi-faceted talent in its entirety. It is staged around four themes: women, travel, culture and society, eroticism.
As part of the exhibition, four summer evening events will be held in the gallery courtyard, retracing the exhibition via its four narrative threads. There is also a special itinerary for schools.
Last admission: 30 minutes before closing.
Closed on Mondays.
Combined ticket for the 3 exhibitions (Illustri, Saranno Illustri and Illustrissima): €5.00
