Segreteria dell’Amministratore Delegato Giuseppe Toeplitz

The papers from the offices of Giuseppe Toeplitz, not all of which survive today, consist of paperwork and correspondence. Using original sources and bibliographies, the introduction charts the career of Giuseppe Toeplitz (Warsaw 1866 – S. Ambrogio Olona 1938) and his key contribution both to Italy’s industrial development – first as a manager at BCI and from 1917 as its managing director – and to handling key international affairs both in Italy and beyond. Significant moments in Toeplitz’s life include the great emphasis he placed on the Institution’s overseas network in the 1920s and the crisis which hit BCI in 1931, due in part to the Great Depression. Extensive coverage is given to Eastern Europe, particularly Poland, Toeplitz’s country of birth.
