FUTURO. Arte e società dagli anni Sessanta a domani

Gallerie d’Italia, Vicenza

Vicenza’s Gallerie d’Italia – Palazzo Leoni Montanari opens the Autumn season with a highly topical exhibition: from 3rd October 2020 to 27th June 2021, the spotlight will be on future visions in art from the 1960s to the first decades of the millennium, with a finale focusing on the future.

Curated by Luca Beatrice and Walter Guadagnini, the exhibition explores the concept of the future through one hundred artworks from the Intesa Sanpaolo collection and leading private collections, with a digression – after a ‘prologue’ of futurist masterpieces by Balla, Depero and others – into artists ranging from Fontana to Hirst, Christo to Warhol and Lichtenstein.

There are five sections in the exhibition, with key words evoking the spirit of each decade:

  • The future is THE PRESENT (the 1960s)
  • The future is POLITICS (the 1970s)
  • The future is SUCCESS (the 1980s)
  • The future is POSTHUMAN (the 1990s)
  • The future is THE ENVIRONMENT (the 2000s).

Accompanying the exhibition and Gallerie d’Italia | Skira catalogue are photographs from the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archives, evoking the mood, recalling the events, depicting the traditions and charting the architecture of the featured decades.
