Welcome to the historical archives
The Banca Intesa Group has very ancient historical roots, going back to the year 1539.
The many different components of this Group have developed strong links according to peculiar business models with their respective territories.
The records generated by the business of the legacy banks have been collected to form a huge reservoir of knowledge for all researchers and students of today and for tomorrow, that has to be made available and valuable.
The Archive was established in 1984 under the style of Historical Archive of Banca Commerciale Italiana.
Banca Intesa established the unified historical Archive in January 2003 to collect the wide documentary inheritance left by the main three legacy banks, namely Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde (established in 1823), Banco Ambrosiano Veneto (1892), Banca Commerciale Italiana (1894).
Starting from March 2009 the Archive manages also the historical records of IMI – Istituto Mobiliare Italiano, established in Rome in 1931.
The San Paolo Historical Archive is open to the public in Turin, in the professional care of Compagnia di San Paolo.
The historical Archives embodies in perspective the living memory of Intesa Sanpaolo: it is also a tool by which learn and propagate its traditions, know the development of branches network and the favourable effects coming from the influence on the territories, such as infrastructures and charitable investments that have built up, over time, a bond of trust with the customer base.
The mission of the historical Archives is to coordinate the preservation and the availability of the records of the legacy banks and of the network banks.
The construction of the family trees of over two hundred legacy banks, with the mapping of documentary sources of the history of Intesa Sanpaolo is in progress.
